Im Tagesspiegel-Gepräch über die Zukunft der Universitäten stellt der Kanzler fest: "Wir wissen, dass im Südwesten Berlins mit der Freien Universität, den verschiedenen Max-Planck-Instituten, der Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und dem Forschungszentrum für Biomaterialentwicklung in Teltow (...) mehr Wissenschaftspotenzial versammelt ist als in Adlershof. Doch im Gegensatz zu Adlershof wird diese Region von der Politik nicht als gemeinsames Wissenschaftspotenzial gesehen."
