Adlershof ist ein bedeutender Standort für die Energieforschung – etwa die klimafreundliche Stromerzeugung mit Solarzellen. Der Preis für die Stromerzeugung mittels Photovoltaik hängt nicht zuletzt von den Produktionskosten für die Solarzellen ab. Die sogenannten Wafer, die hochreinen Siliziumrohlinge, aus denen später die Zellen gefertigt werden, sind sehr teuer.
